School Tightrope

And she is off on the next adventure!  Diana now walks a tightrope between enough brain stimulation to keep her mind improving and enough rest to continue healing. And frankly, she and I have no idea what that looks like.

First day at school, Diana reported no headaches or problems. She loved being back. After her two hours, I picked her up and asked if she thought she could have done more. She said probably, but she was glad to go home and rest too. I asked if anything was harder than she expected. The only thing was that it seemed really long. Translation: her brain is still working hard to process everything and it’s exhausting to pay attention. Otherwise it was easier than she expected.

Of course, our goal is for things to feel easy so she stays in that sweet spot of just enough. With her Type A personality,  that is hard for Diana to do. Ok, you are right everyone. Its hard for me, too.

Example: She played some of her favorite songs on the piano last night. They were a bit rough, but if felt super nice on my end to hear them. She was frustrated that they didn’t sound the way she wanted. I had to bite my tongue so I didn’t start my normal diatribe about practicing. Right now her journey is about enjoying things and not pushing. And so is mine!

Kudos to Highland High School counselor Cali Baker for walking with us on the tightrope. You are amazing! And thank you, HHS administration, teachers and seminary staff! You truly care and we appreciate all of you for being there for Diana.
