Healing in His Wings

My phone practically writes the word “healing” on its own now. I write it, think about it, talk about it, research it. Our focus is on doing all we can for Diana. It’s still frightening to see the difference Traumatic Brain Injury causes. Memory and exhaustion cause lifestyle changes for her. Even the things she enjoys can only be handled for small amounts of time. Having the energy to do what she doesn’t like is almost impossible. Her attitude has started to be snappish lately as her patience runs thin fast.
It will take 6 to 12 months before we can really see the long term adjustments we need to make for her head injury. Then there is the left eye. Her nerve may or may not heal long term. The general consensus for nerve healing is 1 mm per month, so we are just waiting and watching. Thankfully, the shoulder and pelvic pain from her broken bones has subsided. But now she struggles with breathing deeply as the rib break caused her to breathe differently. Relearning is essential there.
We are doing all we can on our end. At 8 am she has hyperbaric oxygen treatments. In the afternoon she has either physical, speech or occupational therapy. She will be starting Neruo feedback therapy soon. We are considering some supplements designed for brain healing as well. She needs regularly scheduled meals and naps and goes to bed early every night. Also she is a fall risk and needs to be with a partner at all times. Life is different here. But there is only so much we can control.
Healing ultimately comes from Christ. As Diana led the song “Hark the Herald Angels” on Sunday, that line jumped out at me. “Light and life to all He brings; risen with healing in His Wings.” He works miracles in all of us. He has healed her so rapidly up to this point. Primary Children’s Hospital considers her an anomaly and they expect miracles. Everyday I am overcome with gratitude. But her improvements are leveling out at this point. So everyday I also feel fear.
I hope and pray the miracles continue long term.
